Clinical relevance
Microalbuminuria – the excretion of small amounts of albumin in urine – is a key early indicator of diabetic nephropathy and hypertensive kidney disease, and is an independent cardiovascular risk marker. Regular screening of patients with diabetes mellitus, arterial hypertension or chronic kidney disease is recommended in international guidelines. How to perform the test
Remove a test strip from the canister, close the canister immediately to protect remaining strips from moisture, and briefly immerse the reactive pad in a fresh urine sample. Remove excess urine, wait approximately 1 minute and compare the color change of the pad with the reference scale on the canister label to read the semi-quantitative result.
