Application

Position the bedpan with care to keep the patient comfortable and the contents contained. Work slowly, communicate each step and keep a second pair of hands available whenever possible.

• Prepare: Wear disposable gloves, fold back the top sheet and place an absorbent pad under the patient's hips.
• Position the patient: Ask them to bend their knees and lift their hips, or gently roll them onto their side so the pan can be slid into place.
• Place the pan: Slide the rounded rim under the buttocks with the integrated handle pointing toward the foot of the bed, then guide the patient back into a supine position.
• Support comfort: Raise the head of the bed slightly if tolerated and offer a call bell or stay within reach.
• Remove and close: Ask the patient to lift their hips again, withdraw the pan by the handle, place the lid on top and carry the closed pan to the sluice room or toilet.

Cleaning & Care

Rinse the bedpan in a bedpan washer or under running water after each use, then clean with a mild detergent and an approved surface disinfectant.
